Vestibule | Lodger + Gallery Athanor
June 22 - July 28, 2024

Lodger and Gallery Athanor merge their curatorial philosophies, playing the roles of the “transient guest” and the “domestic host” respectively in the Athanor gallery space.

They find themselves together in the Vestibule, a kind of entryway where one temporarily passes from the exterior to the interior and back again. This space can represent uncertainty, creating an idle mind as

we transition between different temperaments. Are you arriving or departing?

Works explore indeterminacy, the in-between, the temporal; sensory thresholds that might elicit a sense

of deja vu, the vaguely familiar yet undefined; the liminal and subliminal.

Perhaps this is an architectural “non-place,” a void space where we momentarily exist only as anonymous travelers. Is this a place of abandon? Or perhaps this is a place where the ethereal and physical blur, a place on the cusp of time where anything is possible. A place between dreams and waking. The tunnel or stairwell leading toward infinite variables. Nowhere and anywhere at once.
